"Tomorrow is another day."

After all, tomorrow is another day.

Context

This is the iconic final line of the book Gone with the Wind. It's also the final line of the film adaptation (directed by Victor Fleming, 1939) spoken by Scarlett O'Hara, played by Vivien Leigh.

By the time Gone with the Wind ends, Scarlett O'Hara has killed a man, lost her husband and daughter, and made a dress from a pair of drapes.

All that in just about a decade, which is the approximate running time of Gone with the Wind. Oh yeah, a little something called the American Civil War also happened.

But it's getting dumped by Rhett Butler that causes Scarlett O'Hara to collapse on the stairs in a heap of tears. How will she ever go on? It's easy—she'll return to the thing she loves most: her plantation home, Tara, because that worked so well the last time. She's surprisingly optimistic, considering everything she just went through.

Where you've heard it

Scarlett O'Hara should rebuild her fortune writing self-help books. Until then, you've probably just heard this from people trying to cheer you up.

Pretentious Factor

If you were to drop this quote at a dinner party, would you get an in-unison "awww" or would everyone roll their eyes and never invite you back? Here it is, on a scale of 1-10.

This is one of the least pretentious things to come out of Scarlett O'Hara's mouth.
