Some say copycat, we say good idea. Moses had a great style that the people really got behind. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

A good leader knows the importance of not just looking to the future, but remembering the past. Joshua's monument to the crossing of the Jordan is an excellent reminder to the Israelites of both where they have been and where they are going. It's almost like framing your high school diploma. Remember that you were there and that you never want to do it again.

And he said, Nay; but as captain of the host of the LORD am I now come. And Joshua fell on his face to the earth, and did worship, and said unto him, What saith my lord unto his servant? And the captain of the LORD'S host said unto Joshua, Loose thy shoe from off thy foot; for the place whereon thou standest is holy. And Joshua did so. (KJV 5:13-15)
Even leaders have to respect those of higher authority. That's exactly what Joshua does by removing his sandals on holy ground. Yet again, making sure we know he's like Moses.
