Bronx Masquerade Chapter 46-50 Summary

Tyrone

  • Tyrone is pretty surprised that Mr. Goody Two-Shoes Sterling isn't a perfect angel. What does that make Tyrone then?
  • It was a pretty intense poem. Nice job, Sterling.

Diondra

  • Diondra has finally started working on her art. She sketches with charcoal before English class with Raul now, and today she's working on a portrait of her father.
  • Raul has helped her. He saw the cover she drew for her report and complimented her. At first Diondra didn't believe him, but then she realized he wasn't making fun of her.
  • Today, Raul asks Diondra to teach him how she draws eyes. Diondra can barely hide her smile.

Open Mike: High Dive

  • Diondra's poem is about jumping off a high dive. It's scary, but she has to do it.
  • At the last minute, she realizes she's not leaping into a pool filled with water, but with paint. Still, she takes a deep breath and jumps in.

Tyrone

  • This whole poetry thing is going so well that Tyrone thinks they should try organizing a poetry slam against some other local schools.
  • Diondra's into it and she's one of the shyest girls in school; now he just has to get it cleared with Mr. Ward.

Amy Moscowitz

  • Amy's life hasn't been easy since her parents divorced. Her mom left and she was stuck with her dad and he thought she needed to toughen up a little.
  • One time Amy had appendicitis and her dad wouldn't even put his arm around her to comfort her. Ugh. What's up with that?
  • Mr. Ward's not like that. Amy's seen him with his daughter—he gives her hugs and helps her carry her book bag.
  • Sterling tells Amy she needs to stop thinking about what other people have and focus on what she has. She thinks that's easy for him to say.
  • He's a good friend, even though he's always trying to convert Amy away from Judaism. Well, more like away from atheism, since Amy doesn't believe in God.
  • Amy's jealous of all the friendships and relationships she sees around her, but she can't quite figure out how to let people in. Ever since her mom left, it's just been too hard; there's too much risk of being rejected again.
