Fangirl Genre

Young Adult; Coming of Age

Most of the characters in Fangirl are young adults, trying to figure out how to go from, well, young to adult. It doesn't get much more YA than that when it comes to genres.

And going from young to adult? Well, Shmoopers, that's a coming-of-age tale in a nutshell, for you. Cath and Wren are college freshmen trying to figure out what it means to be grown up. Wren thinks that being an adult = being free to get wasted, while Cath thinks being an adult is for suckas, and plans to go into it kicking, screaming, and clutching her Simon Snow tee-shirt. Either way, both of them have to figure out what comes next when you're too old for Watford.
