- Strider and the hobbits set up camp on the remains of an ancient watchtower.
- Strider takes off for the night and, while Frodo is asleep, the other hobbits make a cooking fire and give away their position.
- Soon the Nazgûl converge and surround them at the tower's top.
- Frodo puts in the ring in an attempt to escape but the Nazgûl seem to also be in this other ring-world. One of them stabs Frodo with a Morgul blade.
- Just then Strider shows up and fights them off, using a torch to light their cloaks on fire.
- He says that Frodo's wound is beyond his healing; they need elvish medicine.
