Fergus mac Roich Sightings
- "How the Tain Bo Cualnge was Found" by Senchan Torpeist 801 - 900
Fergie on! I rose from the dead to help the poor poets of posterity. Senchan, a poet of the sixth century C.E., was looking for some inspiration about epic events of the past. He came across my grave and I popped up, ready to tell him the story of our hunt for the Brown Bull of Cooley.
- "The Cattle Raid of Cooley" in The Book of Leinster 1101 - 1300
I helped Maeve get to Ulster's famous brown bull of Cooley, which she wanted because she needed a bull as fancy as the one her hubby had. I warned my Ulster friends, though, so they could defend themselves in time. I also recalled the boyhood exploits of my foster-son, Cuchulain, who was a truly awesome kid, and the sad story of my friends Deirdre and Naoise.
- "The Tidings of Conchobar mac Nessa" in The Book of Leinster 1101 - 1300
Here are all the dirty details about my rascal of a stepson, Conchobar mac Nessa. I fell in love with his mom, Nessa, and married her to become king of Ulster. She made me promise that I'd make her son king for a year, though, instead of me, so that any kids Conchobar would have in the future could be called "kings' sons." I was really into her, so I granted her wish. But, after a year was up, Conchy was called so super-wise that they kept him as king. I was already busy by then—as this story tells, it took seven ladies to... satisfy... me unless I was hanging out with Flidais.
- "The Death of Fergus mac Roich" in The Yellow Book of Lecan
Boo-hoo! Weep and read how I died. I was fooling around with Maeve and Ailill got really upset. Long story short, he tricked his blind brother, Lugaid, into killing me. Needless to say, I died with dignity, but it still hurt a lot.
- The Raven Queen by Jules Watson 2011
Maeve comes to (fictional) life in this book. Of course, I pop up a few times, here and there. She flirts with me and, of course, falls for my handsome face... or does she?
