  • When a new kid, Bryce, moves in across the street, Juli is instantly smitten.
  • In second, third, and fourth grade, Juli spends her time pining after Bryce and his super blue eyes.
  • In fifth grade, Juli gets in a fight with Shelly Stalls after she tries to steal Bryce. Juli also discovers the incredible sycamore tree and saves Bryce's kite.
  • Juli's fifth grade science fair project on hatching chickens is a huge hit—and as a bonus, her chickens stay alive and eventually start laying eggs.
  • When sixth grade comes around, Juli helps Bryce cheat on his spelling test by whispering answers to him. She also starts giving him eggs that her hens have hatched. She does this for two years.
  • In eighth grade, people come to tear down Juli's favorite sycamore tree so she protests by staying inside it.
  • Soon after the sycamore tree comes down, her dog Champ dies.
  • Then Juli catches Bryce throwing the eggs she gives his family out and gets really upset. It's a rough few weeks.

  • Juli avoids Bryce for a while, while he does everything he can to try and talk to her. Eventually he gets her attention by planting a sycamore tree in her front yard.
