Forgotten Fire Chapter 15 Summary

  • Yet again, Vahan is not sure where he's off to, so he just keeps walking.
  • He imagines that he finds Sisak on he streets—alive—and they run off together.
  • Just then, a gendarme sees Vahan and grabs him. He doesn't seem to care much though, since he's already lost so much; he figures he'll get taken back to Goryan's Inn, but instead he gets tossed in his old school, St. Matthew's, where Armenians are being held prisoner.
  • Vahan is shocked to see so many sickly Armenians, but only for a second—he's seen enough of what's happening now to know what's really going on at this point.
  • He knows he has no power there against the gendarmes, so he daydreams to pass the time, imagining magic and trapdoors that could get him out of here.
  • Even though there's no magic in his world, there are trapdoors. Well, sort of. He remembers that the toilets emptied out into a river—perhaps he could squeeze between the toilets and jump into the riverbed.
  • The only problem? It's dry. He's not sure how far he'll fall, but he risks it anyway, knowing that it's still better than his fate if he stays put.
  • When he wakes up, he's gasping for breath since he's in water. He finally makes his way out, but again isn't sure where to go next.
  • He stumbles along the street, seeing places he used to know as stores, but they are empty.
