What’s Up With the Title?

The title of this book—Homecoming—pretty much says it all: The Tillerman kids spend the entire book looking for a home to land in at the end of their long trip. But as Dicey finds out along the way, home isn't just a roof over your head: it's a place where they can have security and love and be themselves. Momma can't provide a stable home, though, and Cousin Eunice doesn't make them feel loved and let them be who they are. It's finally with their feisty grandma that the kids find a place to truly come home to—and when they do, our story ends. They've come home.
