The Hurt Locker Scene 15 Summary

  • There are 16 days left in the company's tour.
  • The doctor asks to ride along with the guys on a run to pick up unexploded ordinance. It's supposed to be pretty unexciting...but we're not going to hold our breath on that one.
  • Once the guys get there, Will is going in to check things out, and then they're going to leave. It's supposed to be quick and easy.
  • The EOD team arrives at the site and heads into the building in question to look around. It's deserted...or is it? Will touches a coffee pot on a stove to see if it's still hot.
  • From his care to be quiet, we suspect it was—he clearly thinks that the residents might still be around somewhere.
  • Also, the guys see cigarettes that are still lit in what appears to be a bomb lab.
  • In the lab, they find a body. Will thinks it's the boy with the DVDs, who called himself Beckham.
  • Whoever he is, the kid's corpse is being used as a body bomb.
  • The guys plan to gather up all of the unexploded ordinance and blow the place up.
  • Outside, the doc is trying to warn people away from the place.
  • Eldridge and Sanborn get supplies for the explosion and bring them to Will.
  • Will places explosives all over the body.
  • Suddenly, Will changes his mind and radios for the guys to cancel the detonation. He's very emotional—clearly, the fact that this could be Beckham is getting to him.
  • Outside, Sanborn and Eldridge wonder what he's doing. You know, as usual.
  • Will examines the boy's body. Then, he cuts into him to get at the bomb. We hope you aren't squeamish because it is properly foul.
  • Will eventually succeeds in his task and then comes out with the boy's body.
  • Meanwhile, the doctor is chatting away with some locals. He's still trying to convince them to move away from the area.
  • Oh, and Sanborn and Eldridge aren't sure the body is Beckham's, by the way—but Sanborn is pretty much indifferent, saying, "They all look the same." Yes, he really says that.
  • Anyway, Sanborn, Will, and Eldridge get back in their vehicle, and Will calls for the doctor to get back in the car.
  • Suddenly, there's an IED explosion, and the doctor gets blown up.
  • Eldridge refuses to believe that the colonel is gone, and he gets out of the Humvee to look for him.
