Story of a Girl Chapter 11 Summary

  • Deanna goes to Picasso's early the next day to help Michael clean before the Board of Health gives him another citation.
  • Tommy shows up and—without saying anything—starts making pizzas.
  • The moment of truth arrives: Darren, Stacy, and April show up, and when they see Tommy working there, Darren's not happy (to say the least).
  • After threatening to kick Tommy's ass if he does anything to Deanna, Darren and Stacy leave—they'd just wanted Deanna to see that they were back together.
  • That night, Deanna realizes something: she doesn't hate Tommy anymore. She doesn't love him, but she doesn't hate him.
  • When Stacy comes to pick Deanna up that night, she says that Darren told her Deanna talked him into asking her back. Darren, it turns out, respects Deanna—that's why he wants her to get out of Pacifica and go to college.
  • Deanna lets her fantasy of living with Stacy and Darren go, but not before she indulges it one last time.
  • They go inside the house, and Deanna thinks about how, even if they don't live together, she, Darren, Stacy, and April are still their own little family.
