May Singer

Character Analysis

May is America's thirteen-year-old mini-me. The only thing fierier than her attitude is her bright red hair, both of which are attributes she shares with her older sister and her dearest mommy.

Frankly, May is America's favorite. There's no debating that point. Whether that's because America feels protective about her little sister or because she sees herself reflected back in May's eyes, we don't know, but it's clear that America adores her little sis.

The one big difference between America and May is that May is "outgoing and hopeful" despite her young age (1.34). America, by contrast, lives life more nervously than a kitten in a rodeo. If anything, America could use some of her little sister's brashness now that she's taking part in a competition as cutthroat as the Selection.
