J. D. (Brad Pitt)

Character Analysis

Innocent hitchhiker meets part-time gentleman outlaw meets abs of steel? Who is this guy?

Yep, Brad Pitt has Thelma and Louise to thank for his big Hollywood break—and particularly Geena Davis for insisting on casting him. Can you blame her? We can't.

J. D.'s role, though small, is certainly a plot changer. After picking up bits and pieces about Thelma and Louise being on the run, he succeeds in seducing Thelma (serendipitously training her in the ways of part-time burglary), stealing Louise's entire life savings which she was depending on to get her to Mexico, and—you guessed it—getting caught and telling all to the cops.

Good guy? Bad guy? Hard to say, but mostly bad.

Eye candy guy? Definitely.
