Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen)’s Timeline and Summary

  • Buzz Lightyear is a "space ranger" whose ship crash-lands on Andy's bed one day.
  • He's greeted by a room filled with strange toys that talk and move. They're lead by a cowboy named Woody who keeps telling Buzz that's he's only a toy. Ha! That's no way to talk to a space ranger.
  • Buzz attempts to fix his space ship and befriends the locals.
  • One day, Buzz is on Andy's desk when Woody sends a remote-controlled car rushing at him. Buzz leaps out of the way, but ends up falling out of Andy's window.
  • In the driveway, Buzz sees Woody getting into Andy's car and follows them.
  • When the car stops at a gas station, Buzz confronts Woody and attacks him. The two toys part ways until Woody claims to have found a ride to a local spaceport.
  • At this spaceport, Buzz finds a rocket ship with strange little green aliens inside.
  • Before Buzz can commandeer the ship and take off, he's pulled out of the machine by Andy's next-door-neighbor, Sid.
  • At Sid's house, Buzz watches as the brutal child tortures innocent toys. Buzz sets his laser from stun to kill.
  • While Woody and Buzz try to escape from Sid's bedroom, Buzz wanders into one of the bedrooms where he sees a commercial for a Buzz Lightyear action figure.
  • Buzz realizes the truth—he is a toy, just like Woody said. Buzz gives flying one last-ditch effort, but falls to the bottom of Sid's stairs with a broken arm.
  • Buzz is found by Sid's sister, Hannah, and she takes Buzz to her room to play tea party with him.
  • Woody comes across Buzz who's super depressed that he's not a space ranger anymore. Buzz is so upset that he doesn't even try to escape when Sid tapes a rocket to his back.
  • That night, Woody explains what being a toy is all about and how great that actually is. Buzz is inspired, but, before he can help Woody escape, Sid grabs him and takes him to the backyard to blow him up.
  • Buzz notices Woody has come into the backyard to rescue him and watches as Woody tells Sid that toys don't like being blown up. True story.
  • Buzz and Woody escape, but Andy's already left along with the moving van.
  • Buzz and Woody chase down the moving van and finally catch up with Andy again after lighting the rocket on Buzz's back and soaring into the air.
  • The next Christmas, Buzz is a little worried about what new toys Andy might get, but Woody reassures him. Andy gets a puppy instead.
