Character Analysis
Every kid has a favorite toy. But not every toy has an awesome kid like Andy Davis. This six-year-old little boy loves his toys. We mean he really loves them. And his toys love him right back. Who wouldn't?
In the great toy lottery of life, you've really hit the jackpot if you end up being played with by a kid like Andy. This child takes better care of his toys and possessions than any grade-schooler we've ever seen. He plays nicely with them, cleans them up and the end of the day, and keeps them all in really nice condition.
Seriously, how has Andy not lost Woody's hat by now?
Because of all this, it's no wonder that Andy's toys are so loyal to him:
WOODY: Hey, listen, no one's getting replaced. This is Andy we're talking about. It doesn't matter how much we're played with. What matters is that we're here for Andy when he needs us. That's what we're made for. Right?
Okay, so Andy is the ideal toy owner in every way. But, that doesn't mean he'll be the same forever. Andy's moving, which is one big change for him. Plus, he's growing up, too. Woody might have been Andy's favorite toy "since kindergarten," but now that Buzz Lightyear has arrived, it's time to put away childish things. This is actually totally normal. Kids grow out of toys. Toys outlive their fun and usefulness. That's just the way life is.
Of course, that's not how the toys see it.
But, that's what makes Andy so amazing. Unlike every single kid in the history of the world, Andy never forgets about the toys he loves. In the end, he plays with both Buzz and Woody so no toy is ever left out. Yes, Andy really is an outstandingly kind and loving kid.
Right about now we've feeling horrible about every toy we ever sold at a garage sale. Thanks a lot, Andy.
