The Cooks

Character Analysis

These guys are hard-working, that's for sure. And you know what they say: work hard, play hard. The cooks serve as comic relief in this book – in what's otherwise a very suspenseful moment, they end up accidentally performing what's pretty much a slapstick comedy routine. When our narrator-mouse gets caught in the pants of one of the cooks, all of the others gather around him and start cracking up and trying to get him to take his pants off. Joke's on them, though, because, as they're laughing, that little mouse manages to escape. They kind of deserve it though, after having spit in a customer's food.
