Odds of Getting In
Not bad. Especially with the fear factor of new diseases (read: Ebola) on the rise, genetically enhanced agriculture, an ever-aging population requiring more and more medical care, etc., microbiologists aren't going anywhere. You'll need some smarts and some tenacity, but there isn't any reason to suspect the career will be closed down anytime soon.
