Common Core Standards

Grade 5

Speaking and Listening SL.5.4

Report on a topic or text or present an opinion, sequencing ideas logically and using appropriate facts and relevant, descriptive details to support main ideas or themes; speak clearly at an understandable pace.

This standard is a direct continuation of the comparable fourth grade standard, with the key difference being that students are now asked to structure their presentations in a logical, sequential manner. In addition, students' actual presentation skills are expected to continue their upward trajectory in relation to their individual skill levels.
