About Me

Intro

You may not know me if you don't live in Michigan because I'm not blue and yellow or green and white...but who needs those guys anyway? I'm the home of the black and gold, just sitting here minding my own business programs, a brand new Engineering building, and oh yeah, I've got a clock tower.

If you're into research, I'm the place for you. Even though the programs are led by graduate students, there are plenty of options for undergraduates as well involving everything from cars to computer science.

Even though most of my students commute, the OC offers a great place to study, dine, or get a Ping-Pong match in with that kid who thinks he's a little too good at Ping-Pong. If none of that grabs you, you can drop by my awesome Meadow Brook Theatre on the historic Meadow Brook Estate.

I'm pretty low-key but I know how to throw a party when the time is right, like on (Welcome Week) to celebrate the start of essays and Netflix bingeing.

Name

Grizz and Clawzz.

Hometown

No I'm not from California. You wouldn't believe how often people make that mistake. I'm actually from Rochester, Michigan, but I still enjoy plenty of warm weather...three months out of the year at least. I try to stay optimistic.

When the weather allows, we've got tons of awesome nature trails to hike. When the cold weather hits, the cool kids head down to Main street downtown to heat up and experience the nightlife and amazing food.

Birthdate

1957

Body Type

I'm lengthy and teeming with smarties. Seriously, I'm a pretty large campus. Fortunately, most of my halls are centralized so don't sweat the idea of sweaty fast walks to class.

There are around 20,000 students who go here and about 17,000 of them are undergrads. Those numbers don't even seem real because most say sayonara after class as they head home to the surrounding townships.

The only time you'll complain about the population is when trying to find a parking space near your building at 2:50PM when class is at 3:00PM. Happy spot hunting.

Current Living Situation

Maybe my dorms lack style or the economy is down...because most students live at home and commute.

Still if you want to be cooler than being cool (ice cold), you'll want to live in the Greek Cottages where many of the fraternities and student organizations live together. And don't worry, they have heaters for when it literally is ice cold.

You probably won't live there for your freshmen year until you get involved, so consider Oak View Hall for an apartment style living arrangement (that includes a small café) until that happens.

Relationship Status

Since I don't have a huge sports program, my rival is virtually anyone I play against.

I used to be tight with Michigan State even calling myself Michigan State University-Oakland, but then I realized I needed some space and went solo. I haven't looked back.

You should apply to me if...

you have a mind for research and a technique to soothe road rage.
