In 2005, you could count the number of gay characters in TV and in movies on one hand. (Or maybe two, but you could definitely keep your shoes and socks on.)

Things have changed a bit since then, and Jake Gyllenhaal credits Brokeback Mountain for helping to remove the stigma around playing gay in Hollywood. So the film has more of a legacy than a fandom, and it's one Gyllenhaal is proud of. As, well, he should be. (Source)

The film endures a decade later, and its cast and crew did a variety of interviews for the film's ten-year anniversary in 2015, including one for Variety magazine. Sadly, Heath Ledger couldn't participate from the great big rodeo in the sky. RIP. (Source)
