Character Role Analysis

Frannie

Frannie's just your typical African American sixth grader girl growing up in the 1970s, but she has enough scrappiness and insight to carry the whole story in Feathers. The book recounts all the things that happen to Frannie in the winter of her sixth grade year, and how her world changes around her. Her worldview changes when a white boy starts going to her school, and her idea of her place within the family is shaken when Mama announces that she's pregnant again.

Through all of this, Frannie prevails and tries to do the right thing, making her quality main character material.
