Character Analysis
Major de Spain is one of the men in the hunting party in "The Old People," "The Bear" and "Delta Autumn." He is an old Confederate cavalry commander who now owns a large tract of land in Yoknapatawpha County. He eventually decides to sell his land to the timber logging company in town and gives up hunting. The timber company decimates the wilderness in the area. And that's pretty much the end of hunting in Yoknapatawpha.
