What's Up With the Ending?

What's Up With the Ending?

So…
be your name Buxbaum or Bixby or Bray
or Mordecai Ali Van Allen O'Shea,
you're off to Great Places!
Today is your day!
Your mountain is waiting.
So…
get on your way! (32)

So far, Seuss has given us an in-depth, empathetic look into the ups and downs of your child's journey. He's done it with humor; he's done it with pizzazz; he's done with signature pieces of flair. And now that he's validated every one of your kid's emotions, it's time to get out there, already. This is Seuss giving us the final kick in the pants we need. No excuses or doctor's notes accepted at this here physical education class.

Still, Seuss is kind and gives us one more little bit of confirmation. He lets us know that this whole journey is universal. No matter how obscure or ridiculous your name is (met any kids named Bixby lately?), he is talking to you. Yes, YOU. There's no wiggling out of this one.

Sure, he doesn't tell us exactly what our mountain will look like or how exactly we should get to the dirty business of getting that thing moved (apparently it involves wheeling a bunch of weird whangdoodles underneath it), but he assures us we're headed to a great place and that our journey is waiting for us. And that's all the certainty we're going to get, so we should learn to embrace it.
