Character Analysis
When Georgie sees Mrs. Garrow, she thinks, "A useful woman—that's what Ma would say. There wasn't an ounce of waste on her, everything toughened and wiry [...] She didn't look done in either, like most of the homesteading women that came into our store" (14.29). Mrs. Garrow is tough as nails, which we guess you'd have to be to be married to Mr. Garrow. She doesn't bat an eye about abandoning him to his prison cell, either. We don't blame her after he lied to her about Darlene, and as she points out, she does have three other children to take care of.
