Chicken George Timeline and Summary

Chicken George becomes a gamecocker in his youth.
He marries Matilda and they have a bunch of children.
They start saving for freedom.
George gambles their savings away on a cockfight, leading him to be sent to England for three years.
He returns and finds his family sold, though he is able to obtain his own freedom.
He's forced to leave the family again because free black men aren't allowed in the area.
He returns after the Civil War and leads the family to Henning, Tennessee, where they settle down.
