Character Analysis
Not to be confused with Laura Palmer. *Shudder. (All you Twin Peaks fans know what we're talking about.)
Cynthia is Tom and Irene's youngest daughter…and she marries Will Palmer, a hard-working young man who owns his own lumber company: the first black-owned business of its kind in the state.
Because his parents are going to school when Alex is born, he spends most of his early life down south with his grandparents and the rest of the family. He loves them to pieces. Will is super excited to have a grandson, as all of his children were girls, and Cynthia loves sharing the family oral tradition with Alex.
In their own ways, both of them foster Alex's connection to his ancestral legacy, planting the seed that will eventually grow into Roots. (Pun intended.)
