  • Morris's mood improves as a few of his old customers return and he learns that the other grocer is having trouble with his health and thinking of selling. Score.
  • Frank and Morris get along well.
  • Restless with less work to do, Frank agrees to take a little time off in the afternoons. He gets to know a few of the neighbors.
  • He gets to know Morris pretty well too. The two of them talk about their lives. Frank talks about the places he's been. Morris explains how he escaped the army in Russia and fled to the U.S.
  • When Morris first arrived, he wanted to be a druggist, so he attended night school.
  • He grew impatient, however, left, got married, and became a grocer instead.
