Thérèse Raquin Chapter 27 Summary

  • The following Thursday, Mme Raquin is determined to find a way to denounce the murderers in front of her guests.
  • With everyone gathered at the table to play dominoes, Mme Raquin uses all her willpower to lift her hand onto the table. She slowly and painfully tries to trace out letters on the table as everyone watches her closely.
  • She manages to write out: "Thérèse and Laurent are ..." before her hand seizes up and becomes paralyzed again.
  • Pretty interesting timing, huh?
  • Thérèse and Laurent are so gripped with fear that they cannot move.
  • Luckily, Grivet announces that he knows exactly what Mme Raquin was trying to say. He completes her sentence for her: "Thérèse and Laurent are taking good care of me."
  • Hahaha. Ha. Hilarious.
  • Mme Raquin sinks into despair. Her own hand has betrayed her. Well, that and her niece and her niece's husband.
  • There's a lot of betrayal going down in the Raquin household.
