This may be a tougher-than-average career to get into at the moment, but once you're in, you should be able to stay. Being an appraiser means you need serious insight into the local market and where to go for complete knowledge about a piece of property. This means you can't be outsourced, and the job won't become obsolete.
As with real estate agents, though, appraisers need to be aware of market trends and prepare for a downturn in the economy. When home and commercial sales falter, your bottom line will too. Be smart and be prepared, just like they taught you in the Scouts, and you'll be able to hang on just fine.
