Stress

You may be a paragon of helpfulness and skill, but stress will still rear its ugly head. You could encounter patients who are defiant or depressed, or simply don’t want to put in the work. Or maybe your therapy will be undermined by medical staff or family members who complete tasks for the patient instead of letting him learn how to accomplish it on his own. School OTs can find themselves snowed under by cases and IEPs (individualized education plans which must be created for each child.) Some OTs must travel between professional facilities or private homes to earn a living, and late night or weekend hours may be required.
