How we cite our quotes: Citations follow this format: (Chapter.Paragraph)

Quote #1

[Edward to Bella:] "We're going to get that thing out before it can hurt any part of you." (7.157)

Although Edward knows that the "thing" inside her is part of him, he's willing to kill it just because it's hurting Bella.

Quote #2

[Jacob:] Pain came in easily managed forms. The pain of hunger. The pain of cold ice under your paws… Each pain had a simple answer, a clear action to end that pain." (8.211)

Jacob believes that physical pain is easier to deal with than emotional pain, because to end it requires a clear, physical action. Why doesn't emotional pain work the same way?

Quote #3

[Edward to Jacob:] "I'm not ready for you to kill me yet, Jacob Black. You'll have to have a little patience." (9.132)

It seems that Edward wants to die under Jacob's hand for what he's done to Bella, because he knows that his existence has also made Jacob suffer.
