- It's coffee time, and here's Josef. Becca tells him about Gemma. Josef is skeptical. No one survived at Chelmno.
- Becca shows Josef an old photo from Gemma's box of mementos. Josef begins to cry. Turns out he knew Gemma after all.
- Becca remembers that there was a man's ring in Gemma's box with the initials JMP. Could it stand for Josef Potocki? Could Josef be…her grandfather?
- Becca shows him the ring. Josef laughs. He's not her grandfather: He's gay. Well, at least she tried.
- He did, however, know Gemma and Becca's grandfather.
- Josef says the story is so long that they must meet again tomorrow. He invites them to his house for lunch.
- The next day, Becca and Magda head to Josef's house. He begins to tell his story.
