Azalea Kathryn Wentworth, Princess Royale Timeline and Summary

  • Azalea is excited to attend (and host) her first Yuletide ball.
  • First she goes and sees her mom, who's sick, and makes Azalea swear on her silver handkerchief that she'll look out for her sisters.
  • The ball is nice and all until Prime Minister Fairweller ends it prematurely because Azalea's mom has died. Azalea comforts her younger sisters after trying to figure out where their dad, the King, is in all this.
  • The King acts really distant and leaves for war without even saying goodbye, causing Azalea to hate him; she tries to help her sisters survive mourning, which is like being grounded for a year.
  • She discovers a magic passage to a pavilion whose owner, Keeper, invites Azalea and her sisters to come dance there every night (since they can't dance anywhere else due to mourning).
  • Azalea has the bright idea to swear on her mother's silver handkerchief not to tell anyone about their dance outings, so she and her sisters take an oath.
  • The King returns from war and is acting sorta interested in his family again, too (which Azalea has mixed feelings about).
  • Since she's heir to the throne, all these dudes want to court Azalea. She mostly puts up with it.
  • She starts to have a crush on Mr. Bradford, who she keeps running into, but he mistakenly believes that she's her sister, Bramble. Awkward.
  • Azalea goes to the pavilion alone one time and sees the sinister side of Keeper, who's ensnared her mother's soul and will torture her until Azalea complies and destroys the magic object keeping Keeper locked up.
  • Because of the oath, Azalea can't tell anyone this—but luckily Mr. Bradford has an invisibility cloak that lets him sneak into the pavilion with the girls one night; when he reveals this to Azalea, she's relieved at the secret being out. More points for Mr. Bradford in Azalea's book.
  • Keeper tricks Azalea into destroying the silver handkerchief, which turns out to be the magic item keeping him confined.
  • He locks Azalea in a room to die, but then she has a dream where her mother gives her the handkerchief and makes her promise to protect her whole family, not just her sisters. The handkerchief is back in Azalea's hand, and it lets her escape.
  • She and the King go about rescuing her sisters from the mirrors, fighting Keeper, and so on. Keeper takes on Azalea's shape, which leads to a lot of confusion, and Keeper ends up shooting the King fatally (and then disappearing, his oath fulfilled).
  • Azalea and her sisters gather around the King's body, and a warm, tingly magic fills them until he's suddenly alive again and everything's okay.
  • Azalea mopes around until Mr. Bradford shows up after things start returning to normal. He's been getting permission to marry her, and Azalea includes all her sisters and even her dad in the dance to welcome Mr. Bradford to their family. Yay.
