Character Role Analysis

The Sisters

Azalea and her sisters are hard to separate. Even while Azalea's enjoying her first Yuletide ball, her thoughts stray to them—"Azalea considered nipping upstairs to check on them" (2.16)—and when she finds the magic passage in their room that leads to the pavilion, she intends to check it out, but they follow her: "Light filled the passage, and relief flooded through Azalea as Bramble emerged around the corner, holding Lily and grinning a wry, delighted grin" (7.24). Their family motto might as well be sisters stick together because there's no pulling these gals apart.
