Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them Chapter 30: An A-Z of Fantastic Beasts - W Summary

How It All Goes Down

Werewolf

  • A human who's bitten by a werewolf becomes…a werewolf.
  • Of course, this only happens once a month, when the full moon is out. Otherwise, the human is just an average Joe walking around. Not a danger to anyone.
  • Then, the full moon alives and he becomes a murderous beast. It's a real bummer.
  • There's not cure for what ails a werewolf, though you can take potions to lessen some of the symptoms.
  • Werewolves are also only dangerous to humans, not other animals.
  • (Harry Potter book shout out: If his name didn't tip you off right away, we find out at the end of Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban that Remus Lupin actually is a werewolf. Major spoilers.)

Winged Horse

  • Winged horses are exactly what you think—horses with wings.
  • There are all kinds of different ones: Abraxan, Aethonan, Granian, and Thestral.
  • If you own a winged horse, you're gonna want to put a Disillusionment Charm on it so some unsuspecting Muggle doesn't see it fly by.
  • (Harry Potter book shout out: In Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, the ladies of Beauxbatons arrive in a carriage pulled by winged Abraxan horses. In Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, Harry sees Thestrals on the Hogwarts grounds for the first time, because they can only be spotted by a person who's witnessed death.)
