The Pilgrim's Progress Section 15 Summary

  • In this continuation of the dream, the narrator sees the pilgrims continue on the highway. To the left of the Delectable Mountains, he tells us, is a country called Conceit. From this place, comes a young man called Ignorance who crosses paths with the pilgrims.
  • Christian argues that because he hasn't come by way of the Wicket Gate, he won't be able to enter the Celestial City. Ignorance tells Christian to mind his own business, and that everyone should be allowed to do things their own ways.
  • Christian says to Hopeful that the man is a fool because he's "wise in his own conceit" (P648). In other words, he takes his own ideas as the rule. They decide to pass him by and only talk to him later if he seems to want to listen.
