Tender is the Night Book Three, Chapter Thirteen Summary

  • Nicole retains her love for Dick, and tries to keep in touch with him. He lives in the U.S. and eventually begins working as a general practitioner in a New York town. Nicole hears he’s doing well, until some scandals ensue and he moves on.
  • Then he stops asking Nicole to send the kids. Eventually he writes that he’s working as a doctor again in another New York town, and it sounds like he might have a woman living with him.
  • The last letter she gets before the book ends is postmarked from another small New York town, so she thinks he’s there or in that general area.
