The Magic Barrel Steaminess Rating

Exactly how steamy is this story?

G

For a story about love and marriage, this bad boy is pretty sex free. We don't get much direct interaction with the girls Leo is "interviewing," and in fact the close he gets to an actual romantic moment is a walk "with Lily Hirschorn along Riverside Drive" (96).

Hardly Fifty Shades of Grey. Most of the sexuality in this story is inferred solely through the physical looks of the girls Leo is considering, especially Stella, who is described as "a wild one—wild, without shame" (182).

Even then, however, "wild" is about the steamiest word we get. If you're looking for literature that gets freaky between the sheets, this is most definitively not it.
