Depending on the state, you are looking at an average of 2-4 years of mortuary school and 1-2 years as an apprentice should you want to be an embalmer. To get a license in most states, there are exams and dues to pay. There is also a two-part National Board exam we would highly recommend that you take. Besides that exam, you will need a thick skin, a black suit, and a strong stomach.
