Just Moved to New Hampshire?

Q: So, you just moved to New Hampshire from Vermont. You had a license there. Can you drive?

(Expect a lot of trivia questions like this on your test.)

A: Well, yes, at first. You have 60 days to obtain a license if you're a new New Hampshire resident.

How do they define "resident," though? Well, if you

  • are registered to vote (doesn't affect minors),
  • moved here for a full-time job (also likely doesn't affect minors),
  • pay homeowners taxes (also, doesn't really affect minors),
  • enroll your children in a public school (you're really striking out here, kid),
  • or you get some other privilege that you wouldn't normally get if you lived out of state

...then you're a resident.

Also, if you have a vehicle that was registered in another state, you'll need to get it registered here within 60 days as well. Convenient that the deadline is the same, huh?
