Resi and Helga's scary dad is a German police chief who ends up getting hanged by the Russian slaves he had moving the stuff out of his house to keep safe during the war.
He also hates Campbell. Maybe that's why he gives him this task when Resi moves from their home in Berlin:
'You can shoot Resi's dog. It can't make the trip. I have no interest in it, will not be able to give it the care and companionship Resi has led it to expect. So shoot it, please.' (18.63)
That's cold. We're not surprised so much as we're a little unnerved. Okay, a lot unnerved.
Also, it's no wonder Resi grows up to be kind of cray. With a dad like that, we'd have some issues, too.
