Character Analysis
Nat is a young, ambitious law student and the son of the candy store owner Sam Pearl. Ida would love for Helen to marry him, as he shows promise of a bright future, but Nat's interest in Helen doesn't go much beyond sex. He's proud and doesn't want a committed relationship with someone who's so poor.
