The Time Traveler's Wife Book 2, Chapter 28 Summary

How It All Goes Down

Hours, if not Days

  • Friday, December 24, 2006 (Henry is 43, Clare is 35)
  • In the wee morning hours, Henry commemorates the 37th anniversary of his mother's death. He reflects on the fact that not even his fervent memory could bring her back. All he could do was travel to her. He wonders how Clare will manage without him. "What will Clare have when I'm gone? How can I leave her?" (2.28.3).
  • Henry watches Clare make breakfast for Alba, marveling at her efficiency. Seeing mother and daughter together, he longs to stay there. He longs to live.
