Common Core Standards

Grade 2

Reading RL.2.5

Describe the overall structure of a story, including describing how the beginning introduces the story and the ending concludes the action.

The point of this standard is to ask students this question: what makes a story a story? The five parts of a narrative are the exposition, the rising action, the climax, the falling action, and the resolution, and this standard is all about teaching students those five parts.
