Glory

It all sounds pretty grim…at least, if you love the shiny trophies and the ESPN interviews. But don't despair. NCAA baseball has its share of glory-filled moments, and while you might not get rich for reaching them, their luster doesn't fade.

The big one is the College World Series, which is like the big league World Series, except that not all of the players are of drinking age…and there are more than two teams involved (source). A lot more. Just like the NCAA basketball championship, sixty-four teams from all over the country compete to win.

The top eight teams get to go to Omaha, Nebraska, which the tournament has called home since it began. (Presumably, it really, really loves corn.) The winning team is showered in accolades and all of the competitors usually play on national television: introducing a whole country full of fans to who they are and how far they can hit that ball.

If you're looking for something a little more person-to-person, there's plenty of hardware to be had. Consider the Dick Howser Trophy, which goes to college's most valuable player every year (source). It's kind of like the Heisman for baseball. In fact, it's exactly like the Heisman for baseball, except the trophy features a bust of Mr. Howser instead of that running back twisted into a funny shape.

Other individual awards include the Collegiate Baseball and Baseball America Players of the Year, the American Baseball Coaches Association Player of the Year, and the coveted Golden Spikes Award (source) (source) (source).
