There are tons of different kinds of lies. White lies. Blatant lies. Pretty little lies. Sometimes even half-truths count. And there's a lot of lying going on in Hoot—in fact, everyone's doing it.
If they're not lying, they're trying to intentionally deceive someone (which is just as bad). Roy's parents are actually the only ones we see being truly open and honest. So it's not really that surprising when they are the ones who help Roy effectively combat Mother Paula's. And all those other liars learn a very important lesson: the truth will always come out.
Which is a good lesson for all of us to learn.
