Independence Day Scenes 21-25 Summary

Scene 21

  • David arrives at his father's house.
  • Much to his father's surprise, he seems to want to go on a road trip. Hmm. Wonder where he's headed?

Scene 22

  • The President is on the phone with the First Lady. He's pretty eager to have her home (she's in California), but she's not having it just yet. She says she'll get out as soon as her interviews are done.
  • After that, she'll head to Nellis Air Force Base.

Scene 23

  • Julius and David are on the road trying to get to Washington.
  • And traffic is basically stopped completely. (Insert dad-style traffic joke here.)

Scene 24

  • Back in California, Russell's kids are watching the TV news, which features a story on their father's arrest that afternoon.
  • He was arrested for using his crop duster to drop flyers warning about the aliens.
  • The combo of the alien arrival/arrested dad sitch seems to be enough for the wee Casses, and so the kids decide to take off.
  • Russell shows up as they're driving out, and joins them. If they were trying to escape their embarrassing dad, they've failed.

Scene 25

  • Steve arrives at the base, where he and his buddy Jimmy start joking around—which is pretty impressive, given the circumstances.
  • Steve gets to his locker and finds some non-alien-related bad news: a letter for NASA rejecting him from the space shuttle program. Could this day get any worse? Don't answer that.
  • As he chats with Jimmy by the locker, Steve drops an engagement ring. Jimmy picks it up.
  • Holding the ring up to Steve from the ground (and accidentally mimicking a proposal), Jimmy takes the opportunity to remind Steve of the downsides to his career of marrying a stripper.
  • Wow. Judgmental.
  • Also, Jimmy had bigger thing to worry about than his friend marrying an exotic dancer.
