First Lady (Mary McDonnell)

Character Analysis

We don't see too much of the First Lady, but she seems pleasant and loving. She has a sweet rapport with her husband, and she jokingly calls him out as a "liar" when he tells white lies to avoid making her feel bad.

For example, toward the beginning of the movie she calls and she wakes him up, but he claims he was already awake. Later, in a sadder example, he tries to convince her she's going to recover from her injuries…when that's clearly not the case. As we say, though, she's wise to his lies.

Unfortunately, she passes away from her injuries on July 3, leaving the President and her daughter devastated.
