Independence Day Questions

Bring on the tough stuff. There’s not just one right answer.

  1. The film is very much an ensemble affair. Why do you think they avoided fully investing in one protagonist?
  2. Do the love plots work, or are they just a "distraction from the action"?
  3. Do you think Independence Day should have focused more on stories outside of the U.S., given that this was a worldwide conflict with the alien-types? Why or why not?
  4. Why do you think they waited so long to do a sequel (from 1996 to 2016)? Why 2016?
  5. On a related note: Do you find the original film dated? How is the sequel different? The same?
  6. Which of the characters learns the biggest lesson? Or rather: which of the human characters learns the biggest lesson. (The aliens learn that you do not want to mess with Will "Welcome To Earth" Smith.)
