Perseus is the granddaddy of all the Greek heroes, coming before Theseus, Heracles, Odysseus, and the rest. In a lot of ways, Perseus is the dude that all mortal heroes have to measure up to. Perseus is best known for beheading the Gorgon Medusa, a snake-haired lady who can turn anybody who looks at her into stone. On top of that, Perseus is also known for slaying the Cetus, a giant sea monster, in order to rescue the Princess Andromeda, the fair maiden who would one day be his wife. As if all this wasn't enough, Perseus also founded the famous Greek city Mycenae.
